At the most basic level all things are made up of energy vibrating at different frequencies. Our bodies have their own unique frequencies. Like a symphony, our various parts, physical and spiritual, resonate together to create a type of music. When that music gets out of harmony (discord) the system breaks down and we can become sick. If this discord continues on for a long period of time, chronic illness may result. Energy therapy is a gentle and non-invasive way to readjust these frequencies and bring them back into harmony.
Energy therapies have been used for thousands of years around the world to treat a myriad of complaints. Many of these ancient therapies such as acupuncture, meridian balancing, Qi Gong, Yoga and Chakra balancing are still used quite successfully today. More modern therapies such as Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, vibroacoustic and sound therapy have added their own unique ways to relieve pain, promote relaxation, alleviate emotional distress, and assist the body in accessing its innate healing capabilities.
We live in a sea of energy and sound frequencies all of which impact our bodies, sometimes in very negative ways. From the drone of passing cars on the street to the hum of your refrigerator, the sounds around us, combined with the unheard frequencies radiating from computers, cell phones, lights and the power lines, have the potential to “retune” our own vibrations and bring discord to the symphony of our lives. Keeping the energies within us in harmony can be a struggle. With a little conscious and intentional effort, this discord can be cleared away and harmonic balance restored.
Reiki is a Japanese technique that uses energy to promote stress reduction, relaxation and healing. While it is a spiritual practice, it is not a religion and can be practiced by those of any belief system who have had the proper training.
Reiki uses life force energy or Ki (Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit) to influence and balance the flow of Ki (life energy) within a person receiving treatment. The flow of life energy in the body has been studied by many cultures for thousands of years. It has been found to flow through energy pathways called meridians, chakras, and nadis and can be felt throughout the body as well as in the aura surrounding the body. When the healthy flow of this life energy is disrupted or blocked, illness or diminished function of the body can occur.
The healing flow of Reiki is a wonderful, non-invasive way to reestablish the proper flow of Ki. In a gentle, relaxing way, it can help restore balance and heal on physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
On a molecular level, all things vibrate at specific frequencies, including the organs and even the individual cells of our bodies. Vibroacoustic therapy uses the frequencies of sound waves to help entrain the cells of a diseased or damaged body to vibrate at healthier frequencies and thus assist the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
In vibroacoustic therapy, sound waves are converted to vibrations that are applied directly to the body. The fluids in the body (mostly water) transmit these frequencies throughout the system and can help adjust the disharmonies that may have contributed to our illness, triggering the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
This type of vibrational therapy is accomplished using a table, chair or mat that has been specially designed with tactile transducer speakers to turn specific frequencies of sound into physical vibration. Other methods of treatment use tuning forks, Tibetan or crystal singing bowls, or other instruments to produce sounds and vibrations of therapeutic value. Crystals and gem stones, each of which have their own unique vibrations, can also be used to influence the vibrations of the body.
At Hearthside Inspirations I use a combination of these techniques to help bring about balance and healing.
While vibroacoustic therapy tends to focus on specific frequencies, sound therapy uses a variety of tones and harmonics to blend frequencies into a healing bath of sound. This technique uses music and vocal toning to help balance energies and vibrations, bringing about profound relaxation, opening of blocked energy pathways, and can help induce a meditative state.
“Because the human energy field is so resilient, manipulation techniques such as hands-on healing, subtle energy devices, and body therapies introducing subtle energy into the system can more effectively preserve health than those therapies using chemical or mechanical intervention.”
